I have found the courses available through TCI fantastic in helping me teach Religious Education at high school level. I had not studied Religious Education since leaving high school, and was able to take Introduction to Religious Education over the school holidays, which assisted me with teaching R.E for the first time.
While studying at university a Catholic high school principal recommended I study for TCI's Cert. in Catechetical Studies because I was interested in teaching in a Catholic school. This showed me the value of being qualilified to teach RE when applying for jobs in Catholic schools.
I am currently studying toward a Diploma in Religious Studies - Religious Education; being able to teach R.E has kept me in employment in my school. I made great contacts from around the South Island during the course, and found the material engaging. In particular I found “Fowler’s Stages of Faith” from the Introduction to RE course has helped me differentiate lessons for each age group. The TCI courses I am studying this year are directly relate to the NCEA achievement standards that I am teaching.
